Finding buried or lost treasure around old home sites

Most of us are not able to travel to some far off mystical land in search of King Solomon's Mines or search some long lost pyramid in the jungles of south America, but there are often places where those long hidden treasures can be found close to home.  There are many, and I mean many old home sites spread across this land.  Locations that were once the site of proud homes.  But now show nothing of their former existence, except in many cases the crumbling remains of an old chimney.  In some ways yesterday chimney's are much like today's tombstones---a stark reminder of what use to be.  Very often it is these sites that will yield the treasures of the past.  To explore these sites you will need a few things: first the permission of the land owner, next the right metal detector , and perhaps most of all plenty of patience. Many years ago, in the rural areas of the nation, people seldom used banks and often hide their money and other valuables in unusual places, often burying them near some familiar land mark, near the home.  Sometime near the outside base of the chimney, beneath an old brick side walk, or near a large stone, again close to the home.  As a boy in rural Mississippi, my grandfather often talked of the man who owned the old place before he brought it.  As the story goes, the fellow was taking up an old brick side walk in front of the house and dug up an old cast iron tea kettle filled with gold and silver coins.  Shortly after that find, he sold the house to my grandfather and moved into town and open a store.  That story, and I have no reason to doubt it, was what, more than anything else, started me on my life time hobby of treasure hunting.  So if you have the patience and enjoy the excitement of the hunt, invest in a metal detector and enjoy the adventure of treasure hunting.
